Standard Corrosion

Salt spray testing is one of the most commonly used and popular forms of corrosion testing, and manufacturers in a variety of industries require technology to test their products or equipment using a salt spray fog test. These tests have proven particularly effective at determining the integrity and quality of phosphated surfaces with protective coatings, plating, electroplating and organic coatings.

Auto Technology is a leading provider of salt fog corrosion testing, and manufacturers in a diverse array of sectors – including automobiles, marine engineering, construction and the military – turn to our company for leading support and service in this area. For decades, we have been a leading manufacturer of corrosion test equipment, and our ability to deliver tailor-made, high-quality salt spray test chambers and equipment has made us an invaluable partner to a number of major clients.

The Standard Salt Fog Spray Test can test durability in a variety of conditionsThe Standard Salt Fog Spray Test involves the consistent application of a single temperature condition – at 55 degrees – with a constant salt spray fog. This type of corrosion test creates a controlled corrosive environment through the use of a 5 percent salt solution to test the durability and integrity of a number of coatings and parts. Auto Technology is equipped with the ability to test in a variety of other conditions, including the following:

Copper-Accelerated Acetic Acid-Salt Spray offers Manufacturers another Option

Auto Technology also offers a variation of the Standard Salt Fog Spray Test, known as the Copper-Accelerated Acetic Acid-Salt Spray (CASS). This form of testing increases the temperature inside the salt fog chamber and includes copper chloride in addition to the standard salt spray solution. Many organizations rely on CASS testing to evaluate the integrity of decorative coatings on certain alloys and plastics in severe conditions.

Materials are tested at a temperature of 65 degrees with relative humidity between 10 and 100 percent. Auto Technology can conduct CASS testing in the following conditions:

  • DIN 50021
  • Ford FLTM BQ 105-01
  • GM 4476P
  • ISO 9227
  • JIS H8502 Se. 7.3
  • JIS Z2371 Sect. 7.2.3
